U13 Sprint Paddling (2009)
Contact: U14sprint@rideaucanoeclub.ca

The Sprint Paddling programs provide instruction and training for beginners and experienced paddlers alike in the Olympic sport of canoe and kayak. The focus is on learning paddling skills, enjoying the beautiful Rideau River, making friends, and age-appropriate athletic training that follows Long Term Athlete Development principles. The goal is to develop water sport skills and confidence while having a great time in a safe and supportive environment.

Participants are organized by age, and participate in 3 blocks per day: canoeing, kayaking, and dryland/games. They will also swim and engage in recreational boats such as SUP boards. Paddlers will learn about water safety rules and how to balance, paddle, and train in sprint kayaks and canoes. Each session they will do a warm up, practice/work out, and cool down.

If you are new to the sport and are not sure if a summer-long program is right for your child, the Intro to Sprint Program is a great introduction to the sport that is available as a 2-week camp in the summer that does not require a membership.

Membership is required before being able to register for a sprint program.

Info and updates regarding Covid-19 can be found on our website HERE

Paddlers must demonstrate a minimum swimming ability before getting in a boat. For more info on the Swim Assessment, click HERE

    Volunteering

The RCC is proud to host and attend several regattas throughout the on water season. The only way for a regatta to happen is with the help of our committed volunteers. Part of becoming a member of the RCC and signing up for the Sprint Program is committing to volunteering as per the RCC Volunteer Policy. Volunteering is great way to get to know the sport and wonderful people who make it such a special environment. We look forward to seeing you at one of the events! Any questions about volunteering can be directed to the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@rideaucanoeclub.ca

    COVID-19 Flexible Reschedule/Credit/Refund Policy

As a non-profit organization, the RCC relies on revenue from our paddling programs to provide top
quality recreation and competitive training opportunities. If your program is affected by COVID-19 we ask that you to consider the first two options first:

    1. RESCHEDULE - If a program is cancelled or you are not able to participate at the predetermined time due to a COVID-19 related reason, our preferred option would be to work with you to determine if your program can be rescheduled to a time that would enable your participation this season.
    2. ACCOUNT CREDIT - If rescheduling is not possible, we are asking registrants to accept a registration credit that could be used towards future programming held at a later date in 2021 or 2022.
    3. If the two options above are unacceptable to you, we will refund the full amount of your registration fee.

This Policy applies to programs scheduled to start May 1, 2022 or later. It may be adjusted or
rescinded by the Club as the situation evolves and regulations are updated by Ottawa Public Health, the Province of Ontario and/or the Government of Canada . All cancellation/refund requests not associated with the current COVID-19 situation will follow the Club’s standard Refund Policy.
