    2017 Canoe Kids

    Our popular Summer Day Camp Sessions are ready for your canoe kids.

    Canoe Kids is a fun-filled day camp experience focused on all aspects of safe paddle sports. Campers aged 7-12 years old will be introduced to canoeing, kayaking, dragon boating, water safety, swimming, field sports as well as cooperative games and activities. 

    Pre-Requisites: 

    • Campers must be 7-12 years old during the camp session
    • No paddling experience is required 
    • CanoeKids participants must demonstrate minimum swim ability, if campers cannot complete the swim assessment they will not be able to continue in the camp**

    What to bring to camp: 

    • The Rideau Canoe Club will provide all the necessary paddling equipment. However, CanoeKids participants are welcome to bring their own. 
    • 2 changes of clothing daily will be required; clothing should be comfortable, loose fitting and preferably made of quick drying fabric (they do get wet!). 
    • Running shoes are required for dry-land games. 
    • Sun screen, water bottle, healthy lunches and snacks are needed for each day. Some days the club will have a pizza lunch; more information will be given after registration.

    **Prior to getting in boats participants must show they have the ability to roll into the water and swim 50 metres (any stroke) and stay afloat (tread water) for 1 minute (as per the National Lifesaving Society Swim to Survive standard). Swim ability is assessed without a life-jacket or other flotation device. If your child is nervous about this process we welcome you to swim along with your child to ease the nerves

    Refund Policy:

    • Registrations are only considered final when full payment is made.
    • All cancellation/refund requests must be done in writing to the RCC Administrator and Program Coordinator. All refund requests will take 4 to 6 weeks to process.
    • No refunds will be issued if a participant has to leave a camp due to disciplinary issues.
    • There is no refund available for the Canoe Kids Summer Camp once the camp has started.
    • If cancellation is done at least 4 weeks before the start of the camp, then a refund will be issued less a $50 administration fee.
    • If cancellation is done within 4 weeks prior to the start program, a refund will be issued less 50% of the program fee.
    • Cancellations the week before the program starts will not qualify for a refund.

    • Rideau Canoe Club

    This half-day course will turn land-lovers into proficient paddlers. Open to anyone looking for a safe, informative, and fun introduction to flatwater canoeing. Areas covered include movement skills, boat care, entry/exits, safety, and selecting proper equipment. Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets, or those provided by the Club.

    Regatta Ready is an introductory camp for the Olympic sport of competitive Sprint Canoe Kayak for U13 aged athletes (born 2004- 2007) and provides all the necessary skills to start paddling canoes and kayaks competitively. The goal is to teach good training habits and a love for being outdoors and on the water. 

    Paddlers will learn about water safety rules and how to balance, paddle, and train in sprint kayaks and canoes. Each practice they will do a warm up, practice/work out, and cool down.

    The summer sessions of Intro to Paddle Sports- Regatta Ready include the opportunity to race at a fun, local regatta. Participants will learn competition skills and rules for sprint canoe kayak, and will participate in on and off water training sessions. 

    Paddlers must demonstrate a minimum swimming ability before getting in a boat. For more info on the Swim Test, click HERE

    NOTE: Intro to Paddle Sports is designed to give you a taste of the Summer Sprint Program, but it is not a prerequisite. If you would rather register directly for the 7 weeks of Summer Program, click HERE for more info.

      To be eligible for the Train to Train group you must: 
      • Have paddled for at least one season (not a beginner)
      • Commit to the full season of paddling (May- October minimum; full Winter preferred) 
      • Intend to commit to full year U16 training starting Nov 2017
      • Will benefit from specializing into canoe or kayak
      • Will benefit from increased training load 
      • Parents, athlete, and coach must all agree that this is the best option for the athlete (sign form)

      2017 Sprint Adult Novice

      Got a great Introduction to Sprint Paddling and you are ready for the next level, but may not be ready to race.  Continue to work on  developing fitness and technical proficiency. Topics and skills covered will include continued improvement on proper paddling technique, starts, turning, and racing strategies. Novice paddlers are encouraged to participate in one of the many available Masters Regattas over the summer (regatta registration fees are extra).

      Advanced Masters is a program for adult paddlers who want to push themselves to their limit on the water. Kayaks and canoes are welcome – as long as they are fast! Workouts will focus on developing peak speed, anaerobic capacity, and refining minute technique details to shave precious seconds off personal bests. High Performance paddlers are strongly encouraged to have their own boats/paddles and to train on their own on other days of the week. Advanced paddlers are strongly encouraged to compete in more than one of the summer Masters Regattas.

        Rideau Canoe Club offers a high performance spring-racing program for U19 and Senior level athletes. The program consists of paddling, weights, running, and yoga training sessions.

        Personal Equipment: Many competitive paddlers have their equipment. Although the club has a large selection of boats and paddles these may not be of the competitive level or quality the individual likes. Most competitive paddlers purchase their own boat and paddle for their U16/U17 training. If looking for the boat or paddle to best match the individual please consult your coach first.

        Introduction to Sea Kayaking introduces the novice to paddling a sea kayak in calm, sheltered waters. The focus of this half-day course is to provide skills essential to being comfortable day paddling in a group environment. The course participant will build on their expanding paddling skill set, and be introduced to rescue techniques that incorporate the use of a paddling partner. Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.

        Back by popular demand, this is a daytime group-paddling program for enthusiastic outdoor lovers age 55 and above (and young at heart)! Whether you have years of paddling experience behind you or would like to challenge yourself with a new activity, come enjoy mornings of paddling on beautiful Mooney's Bay.


        Facilitated by qualified instructors, you have the choice to canoe or kayak in a supportive and fun learning environment. All welcome - from fitness enthusiasts to relaxation seekers! Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.  


        Minimum participants per session: 6; maximum participants per session: 16.

        Please note sessions on Statutory Holidays will be moved to the Friday of the same week.

        Each session delivers a structured workout program offering low-impact training with high-impact results. Looking for an alternative to being in the gym? This program is geared for you! 

        Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.

        Please note sessions on Statutory Holidays will be moved to the Friday of the same week.

        U13, U15 - This regatta is the qualifying regatta for Ontario Championships. Top 15 crews will qualify for Ontarios. By registering for this regatta you are also committing to racing at Ontario Championships on August 12. 


        U17, U19, 20+, Masters –These are qualifiers for the National Championships. Top 4 crews (top 5 in the 6 km) will qualify for the National Championships.

        NATIONALS INFO
        Prior to entering any event in a U16 or above age category, you must talk to your coach regarding whether you are planning on accepting an entry to Nationals. The club will be finalizing these entries immediately following the races on Sunday, therefore coaches will not have time to discuss whether you are attending Nationals after the regatta. Please talk to your coach to ensure they are clear on your decision.

        U13, U15 - the top 15 qualified crews out of EOD will race against the top crews from WOD to determine who is the Ontario Champion! 

        U17, U19, Open - all athletes from across Ontario are invited to race for the Ontario Grand Championship and the Ontario Excellence Cup.  

        COST BREAKDOWN
        There is a $35 entry fee for this regatta. 

        Missed or scratched races will be charged a $5 fee, so please notify us before the scratch meeting if you cannot make an event.
