    Our most popular program! Fitness paddling sessions are designed to offer paddlers the opportunity to combine a fantastic core workout with basic to advanced kayak drills, techniques and games. 

    Each session delivers a structured workout program offering low-impact training with high-impact results. Looking for an alternative to being in the gym? This program is geared for you! 

    Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.

    Program Details:

    Minimum Participants per session: 6; Maximum Participants per session: 14; 

    Please note sessions on Statutory Holidays will be moved to the Friday of the same week.

    Recommended Program Prerequisites: Introduction to Sea Kayak Course

    Fitness SUP is designed to give paddlers the opportunity to combine basic to advance SUP technique, drills, and games with a great workout. Each session will consist of a structured workout so you can get fit while having fun on the water!

    Facilitated by qualified instructors. Participants will be able to use their own boards, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.  

    Minimum participants per session: 3; maximum participants per session: 8

    Please note sessions on Statutory Holidays will be moved to the Friday of the same week.

    Recommended Program Prerequisites: Introduction to SUP

    This half-day course will turn land-lovers into proficient paddlers. Open to anyone looking for a safe, informative, and fun introduction to flatwater canoeing. Areas covered include movement skills, boat care, entry/exits, safety, and selecting proper equipment. Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets, or those provided by the Club.

    Introduction to Sea Kayaking introduces the novice to paddling a sea kayak in calm, sheltered waters. The focus of this half-day course is to provide skills essential to being comfortable day paddling in a group environment. The course participant will build on their expanding paddling skill set, and be introduced to rescue techniques that incorporate the use of a paddling partner. Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.

    Back by popular demand, this is a daytime group-paddling program for enthusiastic outdoor lovers age 55 and above (and young at heart)! Whether you have years of paddling experience behind you or would like to challenge yourself with a new activity, come enjoy mornings of paddling on beautiful Mooney's Bay.


    Facilitated by qualified instructors, you have the choice to canoe or kayak in a supportive and fun learning environment. All welcome - from fitness enthusiasts to relaxation seekers! Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.  


    Minimum participants per session: 6; maximum participants per session: 16.

    Please note sessions on Statutory Holidays will be moved to the Friday of the same week.

    Rideau Canoe Club offers a high performance spring-racing program for U19 to Senior level athletes. The program consists of paddling, weights, running, and yoga training sessions. Athletes are responsible for supplying their own equipment.

    The Training Schedule for May + June  includes up to 10 sessions per week

    Training session may vary week to week depending on program and whether there is an upcoming regatta:

    • April 20-22 National Team Trials #1 Georgia, USA
    • May 18-20 National Team Trials #2 Dartmouth, NS
    • June 2-3 OCup #1 - Ontario Team Trials Ottawa, ON
    • June 22-24 National Team Trials #3 Montreal, QC
    • June 30-July 1 Canada Day Regatta Ottawa, ON

    U16/U17 Sprint Program
    Athletes born in 2001, 2002
    • Spring -7-9 sessions per week, times TBD

    Pre-requisites: Prior to getting in boats participants must demonstrate the ability to roll into the water and swim 50 metres (any stroke) and stay afloat (tread water) for 1 minute

    Equipment:

    • A racing jersey is required for all EOD and Ontario sanctioned events.  We will have clothing available for sale in early May. 
    • Paddlers must bring water bottle, sunscreen, hat, running shoes, and spare clothing to each practice. Clothes that are light, loose fitting and made of quick drying fabric are best.
    • The Rideau Canoe Club may be able to supply all paddling equipment. 

    Personal Equipment: Many competitive paddlers have their own equipment. Although the club has a large selection of boats and paddles, these may not be of the competitive level or quality the individual likes. Most competitive paddlers purchase their own boat and paddle for their U16/U17 training. If looking for the boat or paddle to best match the individual please consult your coach first.

     U15 Train to Train (Born in 2003)
    To be eligible for the Train to Train group you must: 
    • Have paddled for at least one season (not a beginner)
    • Commit to the full season of paddling (May- October minimum; full Winter preferred) 
    • Intend to commit to full year U16 training starting Nov 2018
    • Will benefit from specializing into canoe or kayak
    • Will benefit from increased training load 
    • Parents, athlete, and coach must all agree that this is the best option for the athlete (sign form)

    Intro to Sprint Paddling

    Intro to Sprint Paddling is an introductory camp for the Olympic sport of competitive Sprint Canoe Kayak for U13 aged athletes (born 2005- 2008) and provides all the necessary skills to start paddling canoes and kayaks competitively. The goal is to teach good training habits and a love for being outdoors and on the water. 

    Paddlers will learn about water safety rules and how to balance, paddle, and train in sprint kayaks and canoes. Each practice they will do a warm up, practice/work out, and cool down.

    The summer sessions of Intro to Sprint Paddling include the opportunity to race at a fun, local regatta. Participants will learn competition skills and rules for sprint canoe kayak, and will participate in on and off water training sessions. 

    Paddlers must demonstrate a minimum swimming ability before getting in a boat. For more info on the Swim Test, click HERE

    NOTE: Intro to Sprint Paddling is designed to give you a taste of the Summer Sprint Program, but it is not a prerequisite. If you would rather register directly for the 8 weeks of Summer Program, click HERE for more info.

    Paddle All Program 
    Recreational and sprint canoes and kayaks are used to introduce paddlers with intellectual and physical disabilities to the sport of sprint racing. The program includes a safety orientation, technical instruction, and instruction by experienced coaches. Each paddler will have an experienced paddling partner for 1:1 support. Although all abilities are welcome, you must be comfortable on the water.

    Not Sure Which Paddle All Program is Right for You?

    Paddle All Youth night: a program that meets once a week for youth ages 7-18. Every paddler with their paddling buddy, chooses their own boat based on comfort level and the evening is tailored to meet each paddler's needs. The focus is on fun and safety.

    Paddle All Adult: a program that meets once a week for adults ages 19 and older. Every paddler with their paddling buddy, chooses their own boat based on comfort level and the evening is tailored to assist each participant to meet their own goals whether for recreation, exercise, or technical development

    Paddle All Competitive Program: this group meets twice a week with a focus on technique and racing preparation. The goal for this group is to compete at a number of regattas with the possibility of competing at the National Championships.

    2018 Canoe Kids Summer Camp

    Canoe Kids is a fun-filled day camp experience focused on all aspects of safe paddle sports. Campers aged 7-12 years old will be introduced to canoeing, kayaking, dragon boating, water safety, swimming, field sports as well as cooperative games and activities. 

    Pre-Requisites: 

    • Campers must be 7-12 years old during the camp session
    • No paddling experience is required 
    • CanoeKids participants must demonstrate minimum swim ability, if campers cannot complete the swim assessment they will not be able to continue in the camp**

    What to bring to camp: 

    • The Rideau Canoe Club will provide all the necessary paddling equipment. However, CanoeKids participants are welcome to bring their own. 
    • 2 changes of clothing daily will be required; clothing should be comfortable, loose fitting and preferably made of quick drying fabric (they do get wet!). 
    • Running shoes are required for dry-land games. 
    • Sun screen, water bottle, healthy lunches and snacks are needed for each day. Some days the club will have a pizza lunch; more information will be given after registration.

    **Prior to getting in boats participants must show they have the ability to roll into the water and swim 50 metres (any stroke) and stay afloat (tread water) for 1 minute (as per the National Lifesaving Society Swim to Survive standard). Swim ability is assessed without a life-jacket or other flotation device. If your child is nervous about this process we welcome you to swim along with your child to ease the nerves

    REFUND POLICY:

    • Registrations are only considered final when full payment is made.
    • There is no refund available for the Canoe Kids Summer Camp once the camp has started.
    • If cancellation is done at least 4 weeks before the start of the camp, a refund will be issued less a $50 administration fee.
    • If cancellation is done at least 2 weeks before the start of the camp, a refund of 50% will be issued.
    • NO REFUND will be issued if cancellation is done within the week before the camp or once the camp has already started.
    • NO REFUND will be issued if a participant has to leave a camp due to disciplinary issues.
    • All cancellation/refund requests must be done in writing to the RCC Administrator and Program Coordinator. All refund requests will take 4 to 6 weeks to process.
