    NOTE: If you are an experienced paddler interested in the Train to Train Program contact Cheyanne (coach.chey@rideaucanoeclub.ca). 

    Equipment:

    • The Rideau Canoe Club will supply all paddling equipment.  Although we have PFD’s for paddlers we highly recommend that paddlers wear a personally owned PFD to ensure comfort and fit for paddling. 
    • A racing jersey is required for all EOD and Ontario sanctioned events.  We will have clothing available for sale in early May. 
    • Paddlers must bring water bottle, sunscreen, hat, running shoes, spare clothing and a healthy lunch and snacks each day. Clothes that are light, loose fitting and made of quick drying fabric are best.

    This half-day course will turn land-lovers into proficient paddlers. Open to anyone looking for a safe, informative, and fun introduction to flatwater canoeing. Areas covered include movement skills, boat care, entry/exits, safety, and selecting proper equipment. Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets, or those provided by the Club.

    • Rideau Canoe Club

    Regatta Ready is an introductory camp for the Olympic sport of competitive Sprint Canoe Kayak for U13 aged athletes (born 2004- 2007) and provides all the necessary skills to start paddling canoes and kayaks competitively. The goal is to teach good training habits and a love for being outdoors and on the water. 

    Paddlers will learn about water safety rules and how to balance, paddle, and train in sprint kayaks and canoes. Each practice they will do a warm up, practice/work out, and cool down.

    The summer sessions of Intro to Paddle Sports- Regatta Ready include the opportunity to race at a fun, local regatta. Participants will learn competition skills and rules for sprint canoe kayak, and will participate in on and off water training sessions. 

    Paddlers must demonstrate a minimum swimming ability before getting in a boat. For more info on the Swim Test, click HERE

    NOTE: Intro to Paddle Sports is designed to give you a taste of the Summer Sprint Program, but it is not a prerequisite. If you would rather register directly for the 7 weeks of Summer Program, click HERE for more info.

      To be eligible for the Train to Train group you must: 
      • Have paddled for at least one season (not a beginner)
      • Commit to the full season of paddling (May- October minimum; full Winter preferred) 
      • Intend to commit to full year U16 training starting Nov 2017
      • Will benefit from specializing into canoe or kayak
      • Will benefit from increased training load 
      • Parents, athlete, and coach must all agree that this is the best option for the athlete (sign form)

      Rideau Canoe Club offers a high performance spring-racing program for U19 and Senior level athletes. The program consists of paddling, weights, running, and yoga training sessions.

      Pre-requisites: Prior to getting in boats participants must demonstrate the ability to roll into the water and swim 50 metres (any stroke) and stay afloat (tread water) for 1 minute

      Personal Equipment: Many competitive paddlers have their equipment. Although the club has a large selection of boats and paddles these may not be of the competitive level or quality the individual likes. Most competitive paddlers purchase their own boat and paddle for their U16/U17 training. If looking for the boat or paddle to best match the individual please consult your coach first.

      Introduction to Sea Kayaking introduces the novice to paddling a sea kayak in calm, sheltered waters. The focus of this half-day course is to provide skills essential to being comfortable day paddling in a group environment. The course participant will build on their expanding paddling skill set, and be introduced to rescue techniques that incorporate the use of a paddling partner. Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.

      Back by popular demand, this is a daytime group-paddling program for enthusiastic outdoor lovers age 55 and above (and young at heart)! Whether you have years of paddling experience behind you or would like to challenge yourself with a new activity, come enjoy mornings of paddling on beautiful Mooney's Bay.


      Facilitated by qualified instructors, you have the choice to canoe or kayak in a supportive and fun learning environment. All welcome - from fitness enthusiasts to relaxation seekers! Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.  


      Minimum participants per session: 6; maximum participants per session: 16.

      Please note sessions on Statutory Holidays will be moved to the Friday of the same week.

      Recommended Program Prerequisites: Introduction to Sea Kayak Course

      Participants will be able to use their own boats, paddles, and PFD/lifejackets or those provided by the Club.

      Intro to Paddling - Atom U11 

      (September 9- 30)

      Over three weeks the paddlers will progress though all the basic skills of sprint kayaking.  Paddlers will learn about water safety rules for sprint boats, how to balance, paddle, and train in sprint kayaks and canoes. Each practice they will do a warm up, practice/work out, and cool down.  This program will set paddlers up with all the necessary skills to paddle canoes and kayaks competitively in both singles and crew boats.The goal is to teach good training habits and a love for being outdoors and on the water. 

      To reinforce safe paddling skills, all participants are required to wear life-jackets or PFDs any time they are on the water. All of Rideau’s paddling programs are led by friendly, dependable, knowledgeable and certified coaches. 

      If you completed the Swim Assessment previously this year, you do not have to do it again (if you have done Canoe Kids or Intro to Sprint you have already done it). If you have never completed the RCC Swim Assessment, you will need to do it before getting in a boat. For further details click HERE
