Intro to Sprint Paddling is a 2 week introductory camp for the Olympic sport of competitive Sprint Canoe Kayak for U14 aged athletes (born 2009 - 2014) and provides all the necessary skills to start paddling canoes and kayaks competitively. The goal is to teach good training habits and a love for being outdoors and on the water. Paddlers will learn about water safety rules and how to balance, paddle, and train in sprint kayaks and canoes. Each practice they will do a warm up, practice/work out, and cool down.
Paddlers must demonstrate a minimum swimming ability before getting in a boat. For more info on the Swim Test, click HERE.

**Prior to getting in boats participants must show they have the ability to roll into the water and swim 25 metres (any stroke) and stay afloat (tread water) for 1 minute (as per the National Lifesaving Society Swim to Survive standard). Swim ability is assessed without a life-jacket or other flotation device. If your child is nervous about this process we welcome you to swim along with your child to ease the nerves

What to bring to camp:
The Rideau Canoe Club will provide all the necessary paddling equipment except for the life jacket.
- Life Jacket (Transport Canada approved)
- Comfortable, loose fitting clothing preferably made of quick drying fabric (they do get wet!)
- Water bottle
- Sun screen
- Healthy lunch and snacks are needed for each day.
